![]() From then on, many apps consisted of a base APK and several others that included information related to the language of the app, the supported screen dimensions, and the required CPU architecture. When a developer publishes an app on Google Play, it is "disassembled" into several pieces called split-APKs. Later on, Google started using a dynamic distribution system, the so-called Android App Bundle. Therefore, the most convenient solution was to insert the APK and OBB data into the same file and have it installed by an external tool. That change complicated things when manually installing apps by having to install these additional files separately in specific folders on the device. OBB data (a file that includes extra multimedia files within the app such as video or audio) turned out to be the way to exceed the maximum size allowed by Google for uploading APKs to its platform. ![]() This was true until the arrival of other standards that added complexity to the process. A short while ago, installing an app using an external APK involved simply clicking on it and letting the package installer included by default in your Android do all the work. The way to install and download apps has evolved over time. ![]() You can forget about its internal structure - search, install and go!īrowses your smartphones folders using an integrated file browser Installs any APK or XAPK in your smartphones memory. But they are not the only players in the stock photography market. It’s an undoubted fact that Corbis and Getty Images rule the stock industry (Jupiter should also be there, but rumours are rife that it will shortly be taken over by Getty). So, what are the alternatives to the micro payment agencies? As for the MPA’s, I suspect that they will evolve into a different model with a wider range of prices, just like RF agencies did. ![]() In the long term therefore, the cost of setting up high quality shoots will probably ensure that rights managed agencies will continue to exist. This presents the MPA’s with a problem, because they may have to operate without high-end photography. If professionals are unable to recoup the high expenditure for model and property released shoots of high quality, and make a profit, then they wonít shoot them. There is a vast gulf between top professionals and even the advanced amateurs when it comes to shooting the genre known as "lifestyle". Sold through a rights managed agency it will make up the outlay and return a profit in a reasonable time. The cost to the photographer would include models, make-up artist, costume hire and the photographer’s time and would amount to quite a substantial amount. This iconic image of Ireland has sold well because it is fully released. None of those who disagreed with my viewpoint were able to give me a convincing reason why the prices need to have dropped to quite such a low figure and current analysis indicates that the agencies most suffering from the impact of the MPA are those in the royalty free (RF) sector that never charged the higher prices of the RM agencies. Probably true in a few cases, but there was always a vast range of fees and most clients were able to shop around to get better prices. I would like to make a couple of final comments on this changing market and many of those who disagreed suggested that rights managed (RM) agencies sold photography at extortionately high prices. Either way I would like to thank all of you – for or against – who took the time to write. Some interpreted my comments as a very good thing that needed to be said!, others dismissed them as the dying squeals of an aging dinosaur. It was my intention to start a debate and in that respect it was a success, with the range of views and depth of feeling about the subject coming as a welcome surprise. My earlier essay Micro Payment Agencies – A Force for Good or Evilresulted in an overflowing inbox and a strongly debated string in the Luminous Landscape Forum. The higher this number is, the better the oil performs at increased ambient temperature. It shows how fast the motor oil thins and is crucial to proper engine lubrication and protection at a high temperature. This SAE size number indicates the oil viscosity rating at an operating temperature of 212 oF. In cold temperature regions, 0W or 5W oils tend to work best. “Winter.” The lower this number is, the less likely the motor oil will thicken at lower temperatures. The first digit in the SAE size indicates how well the oil flows at 0 oF. So, these two numbers - what do they indicate? A. The SAE J300 standard defines these numbers individually for monograde oils.Īny multigrade oil must pass the SAE J300 viscosity grade standards to be approved for use. Multigrade oils have two numbers, in the format “XW-XX.” ![]() So how do you read the SAE oil number? What Does The SAE Oil Number (Viscosity Grade) Mean? This means that your engine can generally use the same oil as summer switches to winter. Remember that your engine heats up with use and may be influenced by high or low temperatures as seasons change.Ĭompared to mineral oil, multigrade oils can perform at a wider operating temperature range.Įngine oil grades like SAE 5W30 oil or 10W40 are commonly used (for diesel or gasoline engines) because they’re thin enough to flow at a low temperature (regions with colder temperatures) but thick enough to perform well at a higher temperature. Use of engine oil additives to mineral oil, called viscosity index improvers (VII), allowed oils to thin at a slower rate, retaining a higher viscosity index even at a higher temperature. Multigrade oils were introduced in the 1950s to address varying engine operating conditions, such as driving in extremely low temperatures or high temperatures. Originally, viscosity ratings were monograde - meaning it was only one number (like engine oil SAE 30). The SAE viscosity grade is not the actual viscosity value of the motor oil. The SAE number (also known as “viscosity rating” or “viscosity grade”) is a code to grade motor oils by their viscosity characteristics. Now that you know the SAE definition for motor oil, let’s understand the SAE oil number. This means that if your engine manufacturer recommends “SAE 5W30 oil,” one labeled as just “5W30 oil” might not meet the viscosity characteristics of the recommended oil. If it doesn’t, the oil might not comply with the SAE viscosity grade. The letters “SAE” should precede the oil viscosity on the motor oil labeling. Motor oils are classified by viscosity using a rating system - the SAE standard. What Is SAE Oil?Īn SAE oil is a motor oil that complies with the standard laid down by the automotive engineers of SAE international. That brings us to what is an SAE motor oil. If these standards weren’t in place, motor oil would vary everywhere, and prices would rise. This means any SAE oil you bought in the US would be the same as one in Japan. Its primary purpose is to ensure consistency across markets. ![]() ![]() In the automotive engineering space, SAE International issues the viscosity grading system for motor oil, standards for SAE tools, horsepower rating, etc. ![]() Now called SAE International, this group comprises engineers from automotive engineering, petroleum, trucking (SAE J1939), and aerospace industries.
